NeilsonChristian Vilhelm Nielsen emigrated from Copenhagen, Denmark in 1923. He arrived in Canada on a program, sponsored by MP Holland Acres, which required him to work two years on the Acres farm and learn English. Now calling himself "Bill Neilson", his first place of work is now the location of the Tubman's Funeral Home, Garden Chapel.
Bill married Helena "Lena" Scharf, and together they had eight children - John Wilbert, Loretta Ellen, Clayton William, George Barrie, Mary Almena, Garnet Roy, Edith Susannah, and William Robert Garfield. Bill died prematurely in 1947, probably as a result of pancreatic or colon cancer. Lena, his widow survived him until 1977. Together they leave a living legacy of twenty grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren, and eight (and counting) great-great grandchildren. |
