Jones
The Jones' of our family can be traced to Kildare, Kilcullen, Ireland. James enlisted with the British Army in 1816. He was 5 foot seven and half inches tall, fresh faced and had grey eyes and brown hair. He was married and had two children, and was working as a labourer at the time of his enlistment.
From Ireland, our James and his wife, Julia emigrated to Ontario, Canada, settling in what is now the Ottawa Valley. The family subsequently moved from Ontario across the Ottawa River to farm in the Gatineau hills. The Jones' would live in and around the township of Wakefield, Quebec for four more generations, before moving back across the river.
James' great-great-grandson would fight in World War II as a member of the Canadian Military Engineers, and survive to marry and raise a family in Canada.
